Abstract
We described a case of specific (tuberculous) encephalitis in a patient after kidney transplantation. Immunosuppressive therapy, continuously required in post-tranplant period, may cause various complications, such as infections. Specifi c meningoencephalitis is an infection that is rarely diagnosed and more common in immunocompromised patients. Case report: A 30-year-old man had kidney transplantation (kidney donor was his father). He previously was two years on chronic hemodialysis treatment because of end-stagerenal disease based on diabetic nephropathy. He has diabetes type 1. The early post-transplant period duly passed with satisfactory clinical and laboratory parameters of renal function. Two months after transplantation, he presented with febrile condition, signs of septicemia and dehydration with significant neurological deficit and expressed meningeal signs. In cerebrospinal fluid we found lymphocytosis, elevated proteins and positive micobacterium tuberculosis antibodies (Hexagon method) and we suspected to specifi c etiology of meningitis. Performed computed tomography (CT) scan of the brain with contrast confirmed the expected fi nding. Due to the poor prognosis of infections of the central nervous system (CNS) in immunocompromised patients, only prompt diagnosis can improve survival in this group of patients. The therapeutic protocol after kidney transplantation include the prophylactic use of antituberculous drug (Isoniazid 300 mg) during the 9 months.

Prof. dr. sc. Mithat Tabaković, primarijus
Izabrani je profesor na predmetu Interna medicina, Medicinski fakultet Univerziteta u Tuzli i Organizacija zdravstvene njege na Fakultetu zdravstvenih nauka Univerziteta u Tuzli. Profesor je na Evropskom univerzitetu “Kallos” u Tuzli i Evropskom univerzitetu u Brčko distriktu. Dekan je Fakulteta zdravstvenih nauka na Evropskom univerzitetu “Kallos” u Tuzli. Član je više domaćih i međunarodnih medicinskih asocijacija. Redovni je član Austrijskog društva za transplantaciju, transfuziju i genetiku. Objavio je više od 100 naučnih i stručnih radova u domaćim i stranim časopisima. Autor i koautor je 10 knjiga, 11 poglavlja u knjigama i 2 monografije iz oblasti interne medicine, kliničke imunologije, nefrologije, dijalize i transplantacije bubrega. Bio je voditelj i saradnik na međunarodnim i domaćim istraživačkim projektima. Mentor je u izradi brojnih magistarskih i doktorskih radova. U naučnim i stručnim međunarodnim i domaćim časopisima, citiran je 50 puta. Pisao je recenzije za više stručnih knjiga i udžbenika u oblasti medicine, kao i recezenzije u brojnim domaćim međunarodnim naučnim i stručnim časopisima. Član je grupe recezenata za medicinske časopise Jugoistočne Evrope. Dobitnik je prve nagrade Evropskog društva za transplantaciju organa, Basel, Groningen, 2001.g. Dobitnik je Tuzlanske plakete sa zlatnim grbom – grupa stvaralaca, 2001.g., Plakete Bosanskog Šamca, 2011.g., Zlatne plakete Evropskog univerziteta Brčko i Evropskog univerziteta Kallos Tuzla, 2020.g., te brojnih drugih stručnih i društvenih priznanja.
U knjizi Transplantacija bubrega, (ur.) Karamehić J i saradnici, autor je poglavlja Glavni sistem histokompatibiliteta – MHC i tipizacija tkiva. Knjiga je od strane Yale School Of Medicine (Yale University) uvrštena u biblioteku Harvey Cusing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library, septembar 2005. Harvard Medical School (Harvard University) i kao univerzitetski udžbenik u biblioteku Countway Library of Medicine, Boston, Harvard, 2010.godine. University of Tuzla-Yale University, Sarajevo – New Haven, 2004.
